Dare I say (I love you so)? (I love you so, that’s all I’ll say)
Ere I watch (your sweet love) go? (Your love is so sweet and tender, my love)
(Could I bear) the pain of that? (The pain does not compare, my love)
Enough! I cannot stand this (insanity). (If insanity is the price I’ll pay)
Perhaps it is not (love at all)? (What is love, if it is not what we own)
(Trickles) of passion, lust, or thrall? (Trickles of love-lust holing up in me)
In this (spell of heart-felt drawl) (a spell you put on me, my love)
Omniscient (twinges of hurt), hate, and fear (You lift my fears, my darling)
None of which (I long for here). (I long for you, I’ll wait right here)

DECEPTION is an acrostic poem, and it is a lover calling to the one they love, trapped in mixed emotions. They do not know if this person is playing games with their heart, and are not sure if they should pursue this romance. They are afraid, in love, and are unsure of themselves. I think this is a common occurrence in the love life of people, because it is in fact just a game. You can win or you can lose, and sometimes you are caught in the middle. It is scary and exciting, exhilarating and terrifying, all at the same time. That, in short, is what this poem construes.
